COURSE OVERVIEW


The course in Career Guidance and Development is designed for learners who want to
pursue a career as an advisor, coach, counselor or teacher. You will learn the art of
communication, combined with various teaching and learning methods to help you become
proficient in supporting students in primary, secondary or tertiary education, or
individual clients. Strong emotional intelligence and people skills are important
prerequisites. Learners will develop skills to assist students and individuals with
career advice, trauma and help clients deal with difficult situations. Learners may
also use their certificate to progress to the Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching at
the College and explore a career as a professional teacher.



Certification/Accreditation

The Certificate in Career Counseling and Development is issued by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).



Duration

This is a one-year full-time course, with 2-months Work Integrated Learning (WIL).

Our Saturday classes run by qualified lecturers will assist you with extra support throughout your course.

Student Support Services:
The Centre for Student Relations consists of a team of online professional advisers who will
provide additional academic support if you struggling, and will also help you adjust to college
life; cope with the new environment and study pace and make your academic journey a
successful and enjoyable experience.


Further Studies

On successful completion, you will receive a National N Diploma in Hospitality and Catering.
You may also further your studies at a University of Technology. You will require a 50% pass in each subject.

Our Student Support Services Department offers a variety of services to assist you on your journey to employment.
It is committed to grooming our students for employment, with job readiness skills, CV writing, interview training and workshops
– with the goal of providing ongoing support and assistance to our student population.
In addition, our vast industry networks and partnerships will help link students to companies that are seeking specific skills.
In 2017, Berea Technical CollegeVaal Skills Training Institute (PTY) launched the 100% Graduate Employment Programme(GEP) as
a CSI initiative to help address the high percentage of unemployed youth in the country. The programme aims to assist our students to
secure the necessary Work Integrated Learning (WIL) hours and internship in order to receive their qualification and enter the job market.
