COURSE OVERVIEW


Mechanical Engineering is in demand in South Africa and is one of the broadest areas
of engineering, attracting students who are proficient in mathematics and physics.
Mechanical Engineers are logical thinkers who thrive on intricate challenges and
problem-solving.

Mechanical engineers are primarily designers who develop, build and test mechanical
and thermal sensors and devices from tools to engines and machines. They design
and construct equipment for all mechanical applications e.g. mining, vehicle
manufacturing, fleet maintenance, etc.



Admission Requirements

N3
N2 Certificate, or
A National Senior Certificate with Mathematics, Physical Science or any other technical related subject
N4
N3 Certificate, or
A National Senior Certificate with 40% in Mathematics and Physical Science



Certification and Examination Authority

Learners will receive the following at each level:
National Certificate N3,N4, N5, N6
National N Diploma in Mechanical Engineering on completion of N4-N6 (12 subjects) and 24-months’ of in service training
The National N Diploma includes two (2) years of theory and 24-months of in-service training.

All examinations are set and administered by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET).
The National N Diploma is issued by the DHET.

Further Studies

On successful completion, you will receive an N1, N2 and FLC Communication certificate and can then progress to the N3-N4 qualification.
